Rachel Ong Sin Yen (Chinese: 王心妍; pinyin: Wáng Xīnyán; born 1972)[1] is a Singaporean politician and businesswoman. A member of the governing People's Action Party (PAP), she has been the Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Telok Blangah division of West Coast GRC since 2020.[1]

Education[edit]

Ong holds a Master of Business Administration degree from INSEAD and Tsinghua University.[2][3]

Career[edit]

Ong is the Founder of ROHEI, a learning and consulting firm operating in Singapore with a registered entity in Shanghai.[2][4] Since 2015, ROHEI has been recognised by the Great Place to Work Institute as Best Workplaces in Asia and Best Workplaces in Singapore.

Beyond her work in the corporate sector, her passion for youth led her to help start Trybe in 2001, a youth development entity accorded the Institute of Public Character (IPC) status. Today, Trybe runs the Singapore Boys Hostel, Trybe Aftercare, Trybe Community Referrals as well as Vocational Placement and Career Development.[2][4][3] She now serves as Patron of Trybe after stepping down as its Chairperson.

In 2021, Ong took over as Chairperson of The Purple Parade Ltd (TPPL), Singapore's largest movement that supports and celebrates abilities of persons with disabilities.

Political career[edit]

Ong made her political debut in the 2020 general election when she joined a five-member People's Action Party (PAP) team contesting in West Coast GRC.[5] On 10 July 2020, the PAP team in West Coast GRC won with 51.68% of the vote against the Progress Singapore Party,[6] so Ong became a Member of Parliament representing the Telok Blangah ward of West Coast GRC.[1]

Ong serves in the Government Parliamentary Committees for Defence, Foreign Affairs and Manpower.[7] She is also a member of the Estimates Committee in Parliament,[8] an adviser to the Telok Blangah grassroots organisations, and vice chairperson of the West Coast Town Council.[9]
