The proglacial lakes of Wisconsin were lakes created in what is now the U.S. state of Wisconsin in central North America in the waning years of the Last Glacial Period.

Glacial Lake Wisconsin[edit]

Glacial Lake Wisconsin was a large lake, situated between the Green Bay lobe of the Laurentide Ice Sheet and the Baraboo Range.[1] The lake was formed 18,000 years ago, when the Wisconsin River was dammed up against the Green Bay lobe, filling in the basin. About 14,000 years ago, the glacier began to retreat as the climate warmed. The resulting flood carved out the Dells of the Wisconsin River.
