โดยสันนิษฐานว่าสร้างขึ้นในสมัยของพญามังราย และมีชื่อเดิมคือ วัดรั้วหน่างและปลี่ยนมาเป็นชื่อวัดน่างรั้ว และวัดยางกวงจนถึงปัจจุบัน ภายในวัดยังมี เจดีย์ทรงมณฑป๘เหลี่ยม ที่มีเครื่องยอดเป็นทรงระฆัง๘เหลี่ยมรวมถึงส่วนบัลลังก์ ปล้องไฉนและปลียอด
