English: 15 Prince Street in Glen Williams, Ontario, Canada. Built 1873
The former Glen Williams Public School, a two-room brick school on Prince Street, which was built in 1873.
This 2 storey brick building was built in 1873 as a new 1 storey, 2 room school house for students of Glen Williams and the surrounding countryside. The school was built on land deeded from mill owner Charles Williams, also in 1873, and was used for 75 years. In 1949 excavation for an addition to the school caused the collapse of one of the two wings of the building (the right side in this image) and the school had to be closed.
In 1951 the building was sold and converted to a private residence with the high ceilings of the school rooms permitting conversion into a 2 storey residence. The outlines of the original tall school room windows can be clearly seen in the existing brick walls.
