Summary

Description
English: 1930/1940s Cinema, Union Street. Originally the Gaumont, later Odeon. The name at the front of this building is "The Boulevard". It is a characteristic 1930s/1940s design, massively constructed in brick and concrete and reminsicent of the bulk of a power station. These buildings were at the latter end of the great age of cinemas, prior to the advent of television which temporarily reduced film audiences and affected the industry to such an extent that many such buildings became bingo halls. It stands as a rather sad partner to the derelict Palace Theatre on the opposite side of the road.
