Description1939 Maserati 4CL Grand Prix (21233811803).jpg
The Maserati 4CL and its derived sister model the Maserati 4CLT are single-seat racing cars that were designed and built by Maserati. The 4CL was introduced at the beginning of the 1939 season, as a rival to the Alfa Romeo 158 and various ERA models in the voiturette class of international Grand Prix motor racing. The improved 4CLT was introduced in 1948, the T denoting its more rigid tubular chassis, needed for the extra power, now 260hp from twin superchargers.
Before the war, in 1939, the 4CL won quite a few voiturette races after engine trouble in early races, also winning the Targa Florio in 1940. After the war, the 4CL picked up another 10 wins in 1946 and 1947
