Description
English: This is the opening passage of the poem "Akdamut," traditionally recited after the first verse as an introduction to the Targum reading on the first day of Shavuot. Ashkenazim at the time would recite the targum on Shavuot, using extensive poems as introductions. Although Ashkenazim no longer have the custom of reciting the Targum, they still recite this poem, now moved to after the first aliyah is called up.
