Painting by Del Parson of the Anti-Nephi-Lehi story of burying their swords as a symbol to God that they had rejected earlier murderous ways.

Despite the popularity of the story, this is the only painting of the story to have gained traction in the Latter Day Saint Movement.[1]

Purpose of use

No revenue loss by copyright holder. This image is being used to illustrate the changing attitude towards interpretations of the Book of Mormon by the Latter Day Saint Movement. Its use is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:

  1. It is a screen resolution (72 dpi) copy of a painting.
  2. It does not limit the copyright owner's rights to sell the painting or prints of the painting in any way.
  3. Copies could not be used to make illegal copies of the artwork.
  4. The image is itself a subject of discussion in the article.
  5. The image is significant because it is both shaped and demonstrated modern views of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) towards this particular story, and the only painting of the story to have gained traction within the LDS Church (see article for references regarding this).
