CONCURSO A bandeira foi escolhida através de um concurso público realizado em 1998, onde participaram centenas de pessoas da comunidade. O resultado oficial pode ser conferido no Diário Oficial do Distrito Federal de Nº 141 (terça-feira) de 28/07/1998 Página 3.

O evento de entrega de premiação e apresentação da Bandeira à comunidade de Santa Maria ocorreu no dia 01/08/1998 no CEM 417 de Santa Maria, onde esteve presente o governador do Distrito Federal, Cristovão Buarque, e o administrador de Santa Maria, Sr Mauro Alves Pinheiro.
