Summary

Description
English: Church Street, Rothbury Although Rothbury is of ancient origin, it was mainly developed in the Victorian era - particularly after the arrival of the railway in 1870, which brought tourists eager to sample the surrounding hill country. Lord Armstrong, who built nearby Cragside in 1865, also had a major influence. The result today is a peaceful but elegant small market town. This view looks along Church Street with the Newcastle Hotel on the left.
