Summary

Description Corsham Court, Wiltshire, 5 May 2018. It originated as a Saxon Royal Manor of Ethelred the Unready. Both Catherine of Aragon and Catherine Parr were presented with the manor by Henry VIII. In 1745 the house was bought by Paul Methuen and it remains in that family. The present house was built in 1582 by John Smyth, remodelled in 1761-64 by Capability Brown (who also laid out the surrounding parkland), again in 1796 by John Nash and rebuilt in 1808 and remodelled yet again in 1844-49 by Thomas Bellamy. The House is currently the seat of the 8th Baron Methuen. Pictured is The Bath House in the garden.
