Summary

Description
English: Cover of program for 'Colossal musical attraction of 1931' showing Mark Hambourg and Peter Dawson

Notes from State Library of South Australia: Born in Adelaide, bass baritone Peter Dawson's record-breaking career spanned more than 50 years. This advertisement, including programmes, highlights four concerts to be held at the Adelaide Town Hall on 19, 22, 24 and 26 September 1931. Dawson is described as the 'World's greatest gramophone personality' and the text states: There is probably no living artist who can sing a robust song, a song of the sea or open air - a song of life, like Peter Dawson ... He has been acclaimed with extraordinary success throughout the English-speaking world, and is universally recognised as the finest baritone ballad singer of the day.

The concerts in Adelaide were part of a tour of Australia with Mark Hambourg, 'world famous Russian master pianist'.

With high unemployment during the Depression era, the promoters promised: Notwithstanding the enormous expense of presenting two of the world's foremost celebrities on the one platform, popular prices have been arranged for the Australian tour.

Dawson received much adulation when he arrived in his hometown of Adelaide.
