Summary

Description
English: Cromwell's Cottage. In medieval times, Warrington's importance was as a crossing point of the River Mersey and it became a fulcrum in the English Civil War. The armies of Oliver Cromwell and the Earl of Derby both stayed near the old town centre and popular legend has it that Cromwell lodged in this cottage on Church Street on August 20 1648 although it is likely that the actual place was nearby, possibly next door.
