English: David, in armour, kneeling in penitence before God encircled by cherubim. In the foreground, a corpse with devils torturing souls. Psalm 6: 'Domine, ne in furore', in gold capitals on a blue ground, with the monogram 'EC' of Étienne Chevalier.
Français : Le roi David, en armure, se tient agenouillé en prière. Au dessus de lui, dans le ciel, se tient Dieu le père dans une nimbe entouré d'anges. Autour de lui, se dresse un paysage représentant l'Enfer à gauche et en bas à droite où des démons terrorisent des âmes damnées. L'armée du roi s'avance au fond à droite au pied d'un château. Miniature illustrant les Psaumes de la Pénitence.

Object history
Français : Ancien livre d'heures commandé par Étienne Chevalier, trésorier du roi Charles VII. Démembré et les miniatures découpées au début du XVIIIe siècle. En 1831, elle est retrouvée en Angleterre, dans les collections du poète Samuel Rogers, celui-ci l'ayant acquise en 1802 à Paris. Après être passée dans les collections de John Campbell de Breadalbane, elle est achetée par le British Museum en 1886.
