DescriptionDedication to Hadrian's freedman Publius Aelius Liberalis, from Castelporziano, first half of the 2nd cent. AD, National Museum of Rome, Baths of Diocletian, Rome (13823381815).jpg
The inscription is engraved on the base of a statue to the freedman Publius Aelius by the inhabitants of the vicus Augustanus, of which he was the patron. After beeing freed by Hadrian, he held several posts up to that of procurator annonae of Ostia, the officer responsible for the supply of grain for the city. The prestige of this office granted him an important honour from the Senate of Ostia despite his status of freedman.
