DescriptionDenver & Rio Grande Western Railroad - 491 steam locomotive (K-37 2-8-2) 2 (22133705793).jpg
This is a now-operating, narrow-gauge, coal-burning, K-37 2-8-2 steam locomotive on display at the Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden, Colorado. It was built as a standard-gauge class 190 engine in 1902 by Baldwin Locomotive Works to become Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad # 1126. In 1924, the unit was redesignated as # 1026. In 1928, the engine was rebuilt as a narrow-gauge K-37 and renumbered again as Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad # 491. It was retired in 1963.
In 2014, it operated for the first time in many decades and headed a short excursion train at the Colorado Railroad Museum (see the first few minutes of: www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LTTDO5Ufbo).
