DescriptionDidn't even know it was there! (20564504320).jpg
A far shot of Ottawa's Fleet St. Pumping Station. Actually, I didn't even know it was there! It is safely tucked away in an isolated plate, off the main road and just off and beyond Queens St. The station is served by an open 750-metre long aqueduct, taking water from the level of the Ottawa River above the Chaudiere Falls. The American Eel has been discovered lurking in the lower recesses of the Fleet Street Pumping Station. Spawned in gyre in the midst of the North Atlantic Ocean, they can migrate into the middle of the North American continent and back out to sea - a journey that can take 20-40 years. The eels were uncovered when the system was drained for repairs. It's provided a rare view into what happens below the water line. Now isn't that fascinating! (Ottawa, Canada, June 2015)
