Summary

Description
English: Eroding bank of coal-mine waste, Horden Beach. The bank contains coal dust, ash and shale dumped from Horden Colliery via an aerial ropeway. In places it has a yellow mineral coating and strong smell of sulphur. As you follow the bank south down the beach, the bank gets higher and the sea gets closer 1582676. On a rising tide, you feel it would have been better to have started walking above the bank rather than below and it can be a difficult climb.
