La ciudad de Barranquilla, es la sede Arzobispal, esta se caracteriza por el Río Magdalena y su desembocadura en los “Tajamares de Bocas de Ceniza”, eso simboliza los ondulados azul y blanco.

San José, Patrono de la Arquidiócesis está simbolizado por el lirio virginal y por la escuadra de carpintero y María Reina, titular de la Catedral Metropolitana, por el lirio de oro y la corona real.

La Cruz de Calatrava evoca la memoria de San Luis Beltran O. P. y los frailes dominicos, primero evangelizadores del territorio diocesano.
