Summary

Description
English: Featherwood East Roman Camp The MOD Otterburn Training Area http://www.army.mod.uk/ate/public/otterburn.htm includes innumerable archaeological sites from all periods of history. The area is traversed by Dere Street, the Roman Road which ran from York to Falkirk and possibly beyond Dere_Stree . The section between Brigantium (Rochester) and Chew Green crosses a tract of bleak high moorland in excess of 400 m in altitude. Although not much to look at, the remains of a Roman camp which lay slightly to the east of Dere Street can be seen here beyond the roadway. The camp is almost square in shape with rounded corners. It measures some 400m square within a rampart 3.8m wide. and dates from the first century AD Roman occupation of Britain. http://www.keystothepast.info/durhamcc/K2P.nsf/K2PDetail?readform&PRNMAP=N125
