Summary

Description
English: "The first North High School was constructed at 100 West 4th Avenue between 1892-3. The large, three story stone Romanesque Revival structure ... had 14 rooms and cost $14,000. A newer addition was added to the rear of the building containing 25 more rooms, including an assembly hall and laboratories. This opened for the 1902 school session and is still standing at the present date, 2014. The original building was replaced with a newer structure by 1924. It is possible that this renovation was prompted by the school building safety requirements initiated after the tragic 1908 Collinwood School fire in Cleveland, Ohio. The new school was named Everett Junior High School (later changed to Everett Middle School) in honor of North High School principal, Charles D. Everett. The second, new North High School, opened the same year at 100 East Arcadia Avenue. The Greek Revival entrance to Everett Junior High was designed by architect, Howard Dwight Smith in 1929, as a part of the Program of Architectural Rehabilitation of Obsolete School Buildings."
