Summary

Description

A male Bushbuck with his attendant Red-billed Oxpeckers. The name Bushbuck actually incorporates two species which are more closely related to some of the other Tragelaphines than to each other. The animal above is a male Imbabala (Tragelaphus sylvaticus) which is sexually dimorphic and has close affinity to Bongos whilst the smaller Bushbuck species has little in the way of difference between the sexes and has closer affinity to Nyalas (it is sometimes known by its Wolof name of Kéwel (Tragelaphus scriptus)).

These are plucky wee antelope which when cornered don't hesitate to stab at their aggressors with their short spiral horns.
