Summary

Description
English: Diagram of a hypothetical ms/LCI setup. Beamsplitters are used to separate and combine the reference and sample beams in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer configuration, and distinct illumination and detection beams in the sample are present in both the time and spectral domain implementations. In time-domain ms/LCI, the retro-reflector allows for precise path matching while in spectral-domain ms/LCI is used as part of the enhanced depth imaging technique to move the zero-path delay point. In time-domain ms/LCI the laser source can be either pulsed or continuous wave subject to an acousto-optic modulator with a balanced optical receiver as the detector. In spectral-domain ms/LCI the laser source and detector must be capable of emitting and detecting broadband light.
