English: A Grumman TF-9J Cougar on display at the Naval Aviation Museum of Argentina, Bahia Blanca, Argentina. The aircraft was delivered the the U.S. Navy as F9F-8T BuNo 142463 in 1957. It was acquired by the Argentine Navy in 1960 as a trainer for pilots flying the F9F-2B Panther. It was delivered to Naval Air Station Norfolk (Virginia), where he completed acceptance flights. During one of these flights, the 30 March 1961, Lieutenant Commander Raphael Serra broke the sound barrier. It was brought to Argentina aboard the aircraft carrier ARA Independencia (V-1) and arrived at the port of Buenos Aires on 24 May 1962. The plane was assigned to the 1st Naval Air Squadron as "0516/3-A-151" and made its last flight on 9 June 1971, piloted by Lieutenant Edward Alimonda. It was then located as Gate Guard in front of the Freedom Building (seat of Commander in chief of the Argentine Navy) until 1988, when he was transferred to the Naval Aviation Museum Argentina. Currently it is on display at the aircraft park.
Español: Grumman TF-9J Cougar 0516/3-A-151: Construido en 1957, fué adquirido por la Armada Argentina en 1960 con propósitos de facilitar la transición al F9F-2B PANTHER. Fué entregado en la Naval Air Station Norfolk (Virginia), donde realizó los vuelos de aceptación. Durante uno de esos vuelos, el 30 de marzo de 1961, al mando del Capitán de Corbeta Rafaél Serra rompió la barrera del sonido, siendo la primera vez que un avión naval alcanzaba dicha velocidad. Primer avión naval con alas en flecha. Traido al país a bordo del Portaaviones ARA (V1)"Independencia", arribó al puerto de Buenos aires el 24 de mayo de 1962. Asignado a la Primera Escuadrilla Aeronaval de Ataque como 0516/3-A-151. Fué desactivado en 1971, cumpliendo su último vuelo entre la Base Aeronaval Comandante Espora y Aeroparque el 9 de junio de 1971 al mando del Teniente de Navío Eduardo Alimonda. Ubicado como Gate Guardian del Edificio Libertad (sede del comando en jefe de la Armada) hasta 1988, en que fué trasladado al Museo de la Aviación Naval Argentina. Actualmente en exhibición en el Parque de Aeronaves. |
