Description
English: Headstone of U.S. Army Maj. Marie Therese Rossi-Clayton in Section 8 of Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia, March 14, 2018. During the Persian Gulf War (1990-1991), Maj. Rossi became the first American female combat commander to fly into battle. A helicopter pilot, she commanded a CH-47 Chinook helicopter company deployed to Saudi Arabia. She was killed in a helicopter crash on March 1, 1991, the day after a ceasefire agreement ended Operation Desert Storm. (U.S. Army photo by Elizabeth Fraser / Arlington National Cemetery / released)
