English: Jacques Delors, President of the EC, Sir Leon Brittan, Vice-President of the EC in charge of External Economic Affairs (North America, Japan, China, Commonwealth of Independent States, Europe, including Central and Eastern Europe) and Trade Policy, and Hans van den Broek, Member of the EC in charge of External Political Relations, Common Foreign and Security Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, received Tansu Çiller, Turkish Prime Minister, Hikmet Çetin, Turkish Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Cem Duna, Head of the Mission of Turkey to the EC. The discussion centered on economic matters and in particular on the conclusion of a custom union between the CE and Turkey as well as the EC-Turkey financial protocol. On a political level, the main points covered were relations between Turkey and the EU as well as the PKK (The Kurdistan Workers' Party). |
