Oil on board painting of a Cornish river scene by British painter Hilda Annetta Walker (1877-1960). The location of the view is likely to be a view across the River Fowey, from Fowey towards Bodinnick, Cornwall, England. Walker was painting in Cornwall in 1912. Showing a foliage technique similar to that of Constable, who used many tiny patches of colour to make e.g. the leaves on trees look 3D in the original painting (it doesn't show in prints). Orange was a noticeable colour in this technique. So it is possible that Walker had seen an original Constable. The original Constable trees are quite bright in closeup, though, whereas Walker's work is a little more subtle. Also, she is using the technique on ground-foliage here, not on trees. | |||||
