CHICOPEE FALLS TS a Nourishing village of 4,000 or more inhabitants, situated on both^ sides of the Chicopee river, one-and-a-half miles above its mouth andfive miles north of Springfield. A bridge just below the first fall (nowconverted into a dam ) connects the two halves of the place, and pedes-trians passing to and fro have a charming view of the river, the fall overthe dam, and the rapids below—checked by another dam at a lower level.There is ample water power, utilized by numerous factories whence areturned out a great volume and variety of products, including bicycles,tricycles, agricultural implements, machinists tools, firearms, cottongoods, and light machinery. Excellent police and fire departments, welllighted and cleanly streets, four first-class public schools, a parochialschool, a sufficiency of churches, and a pervading air of industry and thriftcreate a favorable impression that is confirmed by a stroll through thefactories and a view of the suburbs with their handso
