Object history Inventorié sous le nom de Brascassat puis sous celui de Schnetz, le tableau a été rendu au premier de ces artistes par J. Foucart (note m.s. au SED du Louvre). La figure du pâtre se retrouve inversée dans une grande peinture de Brascassat, Repos autour d'un grand chêne (Nantes, musée des Beaux-Arts - Inv. 841; voir Allemand-Cosneau, 1990, p. 68-69 repr.)
