The OpenGov Foundation's Executive Director, Seamus Kraft, will join a panel of experts in digital media and civic engagement to discuss the role technology plays in the future of American democracy. What: A bipartisan panel, the discussion is part of a larger three-day celebration on the 25th anniversary of George H.W. Bush's presidency, organized by the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation. President and Mrs. Bush, as well as Governor Jeb Bush, are scheduled to attend. Other events at the celebration will include a behind-the-scenes look at the achievements of President H.W. Bush's administration. When: Saturday, April 5, 2pm to 3:15pm Where: George Bush Presidential Library Center, College Station, Texas Who: Joe Trippi, Digital Pioneer Olivier Knox, Chief Washington Correspondent, Yahoo! News Lorelei Kelly, Leader of the New America Foundation's Smart Congress Initiative Matt Lira, Deputy Executive Director, National Republican Senatorial Committee Seamus Kraft, Executive Director, The OpenGov Foundation The way Americans obtain information about essential government services and the work of their elected officials is increasingly digital. In addition, new technology enables unprecedented collaboration between citizens and their elected officials, in more efficient and convenient manners for all involved; this could fundamentally alter how democracy works in the US. Panelists will discuss how technology is already shaping the way citizens engage with their government, as well as possible implications for the future of American government. |
