Notes The sisters were depicted in ballet costumes from the spectacle Asmodée, or the devil in love to a libretto based on the novel by Jacques Cazotte (1719-1792). Karolina portrayed Leila-humble peasant, Anna played the role of Satan's messenger, Asmodée - in male costume with a velvet rope around the neck as a symbol of obedience.
