English: Khurais Oil Processing Facility Saudi Arabia February 4, 2017
  • The Khurais Oil Field added 1.2 million barrels of oil per day to Saudi Arabia’s production capacity when it came on-line in 2009. The field’s Central Production Facility, located northwest of Riyadh, separates wet crude oil into stabilized crude, sour gas, and natural gas liquids.
  • Despite low oil prices, Saudi Aramco announced they would move ahead with expansion plans in 2016. Construction progress—including the footprints of a new storage tank & gas oil separation plant—is evident in this satellite imagery series captured July 2016 through early 2017.
  • Occasional dark smoke from flaring is part of the normal operation of the facility.
