Description | Lillian Alling, who reportedly walked and sailed from New York City to Teller, Alaska, with her dog, possibly named Bruno. The photograph was taken by Jim Christie, one of the occupants of Cabin 8, who had given her the dog as a companion. Alling was following the Yukon Telegraph Line north through the interior of British Columbia, and Cabin 8 was one of the stations along the way. |

Alling was never conclusively identified after she left Dawson City in spring 1929. As she was already approximately 25-30 years old at the time the photograph was taken (upon her departure from Cabin 8 in fall 1928), it is not likely that she was still alive when digital cameras and cellular telephone cameras became widely used (1995+). |

This photograph has been widely reproduced as the only verifiable image of Alling. |
