Summary

Description
English: Lucas Type was a British tactile alphabet system introduced by Thomas Lucas in 1838 used to teach blind children to read. Lucas's system was a sort of stenographic shorthand. The letters were altogether arbitrarily chosen, and consisted of lines with or without a dot at one end. It was never very extensively used, and in it little effort was made to retain the form of the roman letter.
