Stenen lyder: Märta Ljungberg / 1656-1741 / Född på Ljungby gästgivaregård. En handlingskraftig småländsk kvinna som drev gästgiveriet med omsorg och framgång, överlevde fyra regenter, blev rik och köpte mark. / Dog barnlös och skänkte en stor förmögenhet till småländska studenter och de fattiga i Ljungby, Kånna och Angelstad socknar. På den av henne donerade marken kunde Ljungby köping byggas hundra år senare. / Ljungby hembygdsförening reste stenen 1981.English: A memorial dedicated to Märta Ljungberg (1656-1741), who donated her riches to students and poor and her land where the town Ljungby later was founded.
