| Description |
English: This mallet is made of the wood of Baphia abyssinica. It was made from a log that had been on ground for some years, getting harder. The mallet is 81 cm/32 in long. The wedge is made from the same log. The most common use for the mallet was to pound wedges in splitting logs, for making bee hives and house posts. The mallet and wedge were made about 1988 by a Majang person from Godare werreda, the town of Shemuy/C'eemi. The handle is round, but the head of the mallet has four flat faces. This is the traditional wood for Majang mallets, but this mallet is longer than some. |
