Description
English: red leather sample box case, which opens to reveal six glazed reserves, each with a different example of complex hairwork.

The rolled hair designs also contain seed pearls.Memorial jewellery of this style became popular during the early nineteenth century and continued on into the century.Although people had kept locks of hair from deceased family members and friends since the renaissance period it was not until the 19th century that whole jewellery created out such hair became part of a wider Victorian fashion of remembrance and sentimentality towards those that had passed on.

The underside of the box has some original labels, detailing the number, name and price of each design. 122mm high x 94mm wide (closed)
