Summary

Description
English: Photo of Lewis Craig Humphrey (1875-1927) as a young man.
Date Probably before 1923, since he is shown as a young man. There is a similar photo of his wife, Eleanor Belknap Humphrey, in the same style and size, and she also looks young.
Source

Original publication: Original publication was probably in one of the Louisville, Ky. newspapers. The photo has the "posterized" look of something no longer printed in half-tones, however.

Immediate source: Personal family tree at Ancestry.com. Original newspaper staff photographer was probably not given photo credit.

If you disagree with my opinion that the photo was first published before 1923, then the photo would probably also qualify as being first published in the USA before 1989 without copyright registration.
Other information
English: Another editor for Wikipedia suggested that I add a photo to the entry at Lewis Craig Humphrey.
