Summary

Description
English: Railroad bridge over the Norwalk River as seen from the south on the South Norwalk side. This is the only "swing bridge" on the New Haven Line. When a ship needs to pass the bridge, the middle part swings (or turns) so that it is parallel with the river. The bridge is on the National Register of Historic Places. At this spot in 1853, a previous swing bridge was not ready for a train, which plunged into the river, killing dozens in one of the worst railroad accidents up to that time.
