Summary

Description
English: This description is taken from the Auckland Museum website:

"Image showing a large factory complex comprised of a number of tin and small weatherboard buildings. A large chimney stack made of bricks rises in the centre, with black smoke coming out of the top. A simple wooden fence runs along the length of the property, with a white sign reading 'STOP' at the gate. To the left of the image, behind a dark weatherboard building, is another white sign reading 'ONEHUNGA'. To the right of the image, behind a large metal building, is a large blast furnace and two more large brick chimneys." The date of 1889 is based on the following; the number " '89 " on the handwritten caption on the image; the fact that the plant is in production as evidenced by the smoke from the chimney (making it earlier than August 1895), and the fact that the blast furnace is shown (it was under construction in July 1889 and in production in June 1890).
