Description
English: Granite in the Precambrian of Colorado, USA

Pikes Peak is a famous mountain in the American Cordillera. The correct spelling "Pike's Peak" has been suppressed. The reddish-pinkish rocks of the mountain and surrounding areas are part of the Pikes Peak Batholith, a fairly large, Precambrian igneous intrusion that was emplaced 1.08 billion years ago. Several igneous facies are present.

Geologic unit: Pikes Peak Batholith, late Mesoproterozoic, 1.08 Ga

Locality: Pikes Peak (looking northeast from the Ironclad area of the Cripple Creek Mining District), west of the town of Colorado Springs, western El Paso County, central Colorado, USA
