Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) Birabongse Bhanudej
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) This image shows Prince Bira of Thailand driving his then-new Maserati 250F Formula One racing car in the 1954 French Grand Prix. The image clearly shows the Thai national racing colours, that Bira himself devised, as applied to a car that lacks external chassis rails. This image will form part of a chronological sequence that describes the development of the Thai racing colours by Prince Bira, the subject of this article. This image acts as a clear and unambiguous comparison to earlier images of Bira's pre-WWII cars that ran in his original blue colour scheme or the definitive Thai racing colours that specified different chassis (yellow) and bodywork (blue) colours, and to contemporary non-standard interpretations of the colour scheme applied in less regulated competitions.
Not replaceable with
free media because
(WP:NFCC#1)
The car in this image was crashed and rebuilt many times following the creation of this photograph, and no longer exists in the form in which it is depicted here. Hence it is highly unlikely that this vehicle will ever be returned to any configuration or colour scheme similar to that shown here. In addition, the driver of this car, the subject of the article, died in 1985, so no new image of him can be created. The combination of the original appearance of the car with the particular driver shown mean that no free version or appropriate substitute of this image is every likely to exist.
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) This file will be used once in one article, specifically to describe the subject of both the photograph and the article and to accurately depict the subject's influence on a particular aspect of racing history.
Respect for
commercial opportunities
(WP:NFCC#2)
This image has been published for over 10 years and is now widely reproduced in low resolution form in many locations other than its original form. The resolution of the image is very low and will not limit the original image rights holder in their commercial exploitation of its copyright.
