Summary

Description
English: Priory Church of St Mary the Virgin, Swine, East Riding of Yorkshire, England.
A church existed here in 1150 and possibly as early as 1086. The small village of Swine is built on the site of a Cistercian priory and St Mary's was once a cruciform building with the western end occupied by the parish church and the eastern end by the priory church. The section used by the priory nuns was demolished in the 16th century soon after the Dissolution and St Mary's was restored and remodelled at various times between then and the 19th century. More information about Swine and its church can be found at British History Online. http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=16132
