In this photograph Mike Smith was attending the first annual Surf Skate Roots Rock exhibit curated by Alan Scott. Included in the exhibit was a picture of Smith in 1985 taken by Ithaka Darin Pappas. In the photograph Smith is performing his trademark move the Smith Grind at a drained swimming pool in the backyard of Palos Verdes home formerly owned by the actress Farrah Fawcett.
