This station was opened in 1860 and was then known as "Wellington College for Crowthorne"; Wellington College is a very short distance away and the station was used for transportation of building materials during the building of the school. The name of the station was changed to Crowthorne after the Second World War. Crowthorne High Street is about a mile distant.
