Summary

Description
English: Gravestone of Samuel Tipton, "Founder of Elizabethton" located at the Green Hill Cemetery in Elizabethton, Tennessee (West Mill Street).

January 12, 2010.

It is my understanding that Carter County was originally named Tipton County in honor of this fellow during the period of the Lost State of Franklin] (that is to say, during the 1780s and before the State of Tennessee was admitted into the United States).
