Summary

Description Image cropped to show Scottish Widows building. From an old postcard of Park Row, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. This is a block of offices built for the Leeds branch of Scottish Widows insurance company in 1869, designed by architect George Corson. The stone carving was executed by Mawer and Ingle. This early image shows that it was built with two porticos as planned. As of 2016 only one portico remains. Dated by type of image, Edwardian costume (on uncropped image), and halfpenny stamp requirement on reverse. Also the divided back is a novelty (introduced 1902-1905), as it says, "this space, as well as the back, may now be used for communication."
