| Description |
English: Sheffield: Wicker Arches A landmark of Sheffield whose immediate surroundings have changed immensely in recent years, with the building of the new ring road, from which we are looking, the connecting road towards Rotherham just the other side of the arches, and the re-marking of the roads all around that it has entailed.
Above used to run the Sheffield to Manchester main line, the first in the country to be fully electrified. But the Beeching Report in the 60s suggested only one main line, either this or the Peaks line farther south this one lost out and the passenger service ceased in 1971. |
