Summary

Description
English: Sron Mor Power Station In Glen Shira at the foot of Shira Dam, Sron Mor was the North of Scotland Hydro Electric Board's first pumped storage hydroelectric station, commissioned in 1957. Water released from Loch Shira powers a single turbine and discharges into Lochan Sron Mor, which is the headpond for the tunnel to Clachan Power Station, 4 miles away at the head of Loch Fyne. At off peak times, a separate large pump within the station returns water from the small Loch back to Loch Shira so it may be re-used at periods of high demand. When installed, the pumping set was troublesome and not used for many years although it appears operational now.
