Summary

Description
English: Construction of the William Jolly Bridge, Brisbane, 1931 Construction of the William Jolly Bridge which linked North Quay on the north bank of the Brisbane River, to Grey Street on the south bank. The bridge opened to traffic on 30 March 1932, known then as the Grey Street Bridge. 'Amongst the interesting features of the Bridge, the length of which is 1634 feet, are the three main arches over the river, of 238 ft. centres, each rib consisting of structural steel fabricated under a sub-contract let by Messrs. M. R. Hornibrook Ltd. to Messrs. Evans, Deakin and Co., Brisbane. This steelwork was designed to support the concrete during construction without falsework.'
